Helpful Tips on Helping Students and Parents Navigate Trauma

We try to protect our children from disappointment and upsetting events, but we can’t always succeed. That’s why it’s important that teachers, parents and other adults who work with kids are prepared to help them cope and rebound in the healthiest possible way.
On childmind.org, the website of the Child Mind Institute, we offer resources to guide teachers and parents in talking to children of different ages about anxiety over school shootings, the death of friends or family members, and other disturbing events. We also address how to help kids handle rejection or failure. We share some of those pieces, below, in the hope that you will find them useful to pass on to teachers and families.
They’re all easy to print or download as a PDF.
