I was born and raised in El Paso, Texas.  I attended the University of Texas at El Paso prior to enlisting in the United states Navy.  While in the Navy, I served as a hospital corpsman, and received training in the pharmaceutical sciences.  After leaving the Navy, I taught courses at the college level and realized that there were very few women- especially women of color getting degrees in the sciences.  I felt that I should be a teacher to encourage and assist students into getting into college, pharmacy, medical, nursing, dental and veterinary schools as well as the other sciences.

I decided to obtain my teaching certificate and I earned my Bachelor's degree in Science Education from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.  I was conferred a Master of Science degree in the Biological Sciences with an emphasis in Herpetology, and a Master of Science in Secondary Education-Curriculum and Instruction from SIUE as well.  I attended and earned certification as a Forensic Science Educator from St. Louis University St. Louis, Department of Pathology as well as Medicolegal Death Investigation (over 13 years).

I have had the privilege of working and studying under some of the world's most prominent forensic scientists in their respective fields.  I have also been involved in cancer research since 2000 and I travel to Costa Rica every three years to continue my research on the effects of poison arrow frog toxins on cancer.
